INDEPENDENT READING ACTIVITY CHOICE TWO

Dynamo Magician impossible

Dynamo is seemingly an amazing Magician.  This link takes you to a newspaper article about Dynamo, written in an interview form.  Read the interview and then present a 'report' about Dynamo, using the information given by Dynamo in the interview.  Think about what you need to include in a report and what its purpose is.

INDEPENDENT READING ACTIVITY CHOICE ONE
As may of you know One Direction, one of the most successful Boy bands of all time have recently played several concerts in New Zealand.  Read the article linked on the site below and use it to present you own review of the One Direction Concert.
Think about the most appropriate text type to use to present your review.  Will you use pictures and other graphics to make your review exciting and interesting?  What tense do you think a review should be written in?  Could you search for some other reviews online and see how they are put together.

Problem
All books have a main problem in the story.  What is the problem your main character is facing?  Write a diary entry from the perspective of the main character.  Include a description of the problem, how you are feeling about it and a possible solution to the problem.  Really try to use what you know about the character and what would make sense in the story to create a solution.

Review, end of story
Write a short review of your book.  Be sure to include the plot, setting, characters and problem.  If you liked it, your review should convince others to read this book.  If you did not like the book, the review should explain why.  At the end of the review, answer this question. “If the author of your book was going to write a sequel, what do you think the plot would be?”

Theme
What is (are) the theme(s) of the book?  What lesson is the author trying to teach?

Character
Write a paragraph about ways that the main character (or another character in your book) has grown or changed.  What lessons have they learned?  How has that made them different?)

Conclusion
Did the author keep you engaged in the book? If so, how did they do this?  If not. why not?  Did you care about the characters? Why or why not?  Were you interested in finding out how the main problem was solved? Why or why not?  Di you have a connection with the book?

Reflection
If you could change one thing about  the book what would it be and why?  First explain the part in detail then describe why you would want to change the part.  Finally show what you would do differently.
If you enjoyed the book and don’t want to change anything, which part of the book would you like to expand?  Maybe you want to know more about  a relationship between two characters or maybe more about a scene.

character
Describe one of the characters in your book.  You could write about their age, their looks, personality, strengths, weaknesses.  Is this character a hero or a villain or something in between.  Try to make a connection between this character and yourself or your own life.  If yo could ask your character a question what would it be?

 Reading Activities week 3

Read this text online about the slave trade and then answer the questions
This piece of text is written in an 'old fashioned 'way because it is the recount by an actual slave who wrote it many years after the event.  It is very descriptive and talks of the ghastly experiences that the Africans had to go through as they were taken to America to be sold.
When you have done the online questions write a short explanation in your topic book that tells of the difficulties and dangers for the African people being traded.

READING ACTVITIES week 2

choose one of these reading games to pay from the link below

reading games
Your task is to investigate fully one of the above reading games.  You have to play it to as high a level as you can.  Then write a short review of it in your literacy book.  In your review you have to say what the game requires you to do, what the quality of the instructions are like , what the game is teaching you and if you learned anything and finally, if you enjoyed it or not.

Each week you will be expected to research a current new event either here or internationally and write your own summary of the event in a manner that explains it to your reader.  You will post this summary to your blog when this is up and running.  Your summary must be at least a paragraph and may NOT be copied word for word from the original article.  When you have completed your summary you are to write a comment about the news event in which you state your opinion of the event.
