TERM 4 HOMEWORK
Week 3
A muddly week this week with only 3 days in school.  However there are some tasks that you need to complete
Please make sure you have finished all homework up to date ( see below)
Go onto study ladder and complete between 7 and 10 maths tasks by next Tuesday.
Ensure all your documents are shared back into your folders on google drive and each document is clearly labelled as to what it is.
If you do not get your collaborative writing work finished (ie your feedback to the two pieces of writing that were shared with you then can you please ensure this is done over the weekend. 




Week 2
Learn your spelling words and choose 8 of the words and find the meaning of them.  Show the meaning in a sentence.

go to the link above and watch the video that talks about a new species of dolphin discovered in Australia.  Make a table to show how the scientists identified it as a new species.

Please complete the transfer of all documents back into your folders on google drive

You all have some spelling words to learn.  Make sure you know the meaning of each of the words as you will be asked to give the meaning of any 5 words (this will be done randomly).  The test will be next Monday when you will receive a new list.

Answer the questions that you were sent by gmail about the convention of Rights of children.  The link to the UNICEF site is also on the gmail and you need to be reading the introductory page, not the actual convention.

Put Article 32 and Article 36 into your own words.  To do this you need to summarise to yourself what the articles are about and then write them in straightforward language.







TERM 3 Homework
Well done Kotuku!!  Speeches and Science Fair are complete and an extremely high standard was on display from the entire class in both of these areas.  I could see you working really hard on your science Fair and I was most impressed with your self management skills.
Now back to Homework on a weekly basis.

Mathletics
New courses and groups have been set up for each of your to go over a range of maths skills. If you are finding it really difficult remember to use the help guide on the mathletics programme.  If you still don not understand, please make sure you see me.

This list of words will be pre tested today and post tested on Friday.  They are vocabulary words from the class novel.

Writing
The Holocaust Project needs to be completed this week.  We will be spending some time in class on this but you need to complete the task on The Little Polish Boy poem as well as the task on Symbols.
We will be looking at the task about discrimination in class. Your tasks can be completed on a google doc - please make sure you title it "The Holocaust Project Homework" and put it in your Reading folder







Speeches
This is just a heads-up about speeches.  We are running late this year as no email had penetrated our system about the event!!

However we will start these next week in class but theyw ill have to be completed and practised in your own time.  You might like to have a think about you are interested in over the weekend!

 SPELLING LISTS
Weeks 1-7 spelling lists are under the literacy tab.  You are learning week 4s and then at the beginning of week 6 we will have a '"GREAT SPELLING TEST" on ALL WEEK 1 to 5 words!!






Week 4, 5, 6, 
For the next few weeks there are 2 major ongoing assignments which will take place of' homework'
Science Fair - visit the sites under the science tab for information about how to 'do' the science fair. You will find listed everything which needs to go in the science fair presentation.  Most of you have started on your science fair work and have an idea of what you are going to investigate.  Remember that part of the marking includes looking at a journal you have kept in the process.  You can record this digitally - just remember to date it.
The Holocaust Project - This work which you will find in the St Paul's templates section of google docs needs to be completed by the end of week 6.  There are 5 tasks, the last one of which is an art work which will be done at school.  You can be working on The Holocaust Project independently but I will give you time at school to work on it too.

Week 2

MYSTERY MATTER FROM LAST TERM
There are a few people who have either not done this or have not completed it from last term.  I willlet you know who you are.  Make sure you do this as part of your homework this week.

SCIENCE FAIR
By next Tuesday you must have decided on your science fair topic and created a hypothesis for it.  Put this hypothesis into a file marked SCIENCE FAIR 2013 in the science folder on google drive.The following must also be added to this file
a brief description of the experiment or investigation you are going to undertake
a list of materials you will need for the experiment
a website address (at least one) which you will use for some background research.  this could include youttube clips which might be of some use in providing background material.
some questions, queries, problems you can see might arise.

You should all have a new course available to you this week!! You must complete 500 points.

RESEARCH TASK
Create a google doc and share it into the general folder.  Call it Homework week 1/term 3
Answer the following questions

Why does the moon stick with the Earth?

What is the moon made of?

Why does the moon glow?

Why does the moon sometimes look like it is different sizes?

Remember you cannot cut and paste large piece of text in answer to these questions.  I can tell if you do this simply by putting the text into a search engine and waiting to see how many hits come up.  You need to make sure you put the answer as much as possible in your own words.

Week 9

A new mathletics course will be available for you from Wednesday onwards.  Please complete by next Tuesday.  There will also be a challenge set which you will need to complete before you do any further mathletics.

Homework This week's homework is a lot of finishing off the little things - many of you will have done these but please go through and check for gaps.

I have made some new mathletics courses for each group by adding some new topics to the existing ones.  These topics will have a blue circle next to them on your mathletics home page and ALL of them should be completed for homework.  Some of you have some catching up to do and will need to make sure that every topic is completed by next Monday.

self assessment - writing 

 go onto the literacy tab on the blog home page and follow the link and the instructions for completing the writing self assessment. (QUICK AND SIMPLE!)

Art self assessment - some of you have not put your art self assessment into the topic folder on google drive. (Some of you have shared it with my email but you need to go back and put it into the drive folder.)  It is absolutely essential that you do this please!

I am putting together the student portfolios and there are some people who do not have their Slave Trade work and their career report in them.  Please put a copy of these into your folders.  If you were absent for either of these pieces of work please let me know. 

General Knowledge

You need to complete for homework the research on the three areas of investigation you started last week.  When you have completed the research then you can write a paragraph about each of the three areas.  REMEMBER to share your general knowledge work into the general folder on your google drive.  Please write "HOMEWORK" and date next to the work you do at home.

YOUTUBE MUSIC CLIP

Embed a favourite music clip onto your blog. Ensure that it is an appropriate choice of music please.

Publish your draft writing 'the second dream' onto your blog - (you may be given time to do this at school)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week 7

you need to complete the mathletics challenge that has been set for you.  There will be a catch up session on Wednesday lunchtime for those of you that are behind in their homework.

If you were one of the groups that did not finish the response to the water questions then these questions are available under the topic tab.  Click onto the big questions around water, copy the document to your own google drive and put the document into the topic folder on google drive.  REMEMBER that in order for this to work you need to first login to the loop.  The address for this is http://mail.stpauls-richmond.school.nz



Week 5
A short week so a short homework
Continue with your mathletics work and make sure you complete all topics.


Publish a piece of work that you have been doing in class onto your blog.  If it is general knowledge independent writing make a new tab for this and put it under there.  If it is other literacy put it under the literacy tab.  See if you can link some maths practice websites to your bog (you will need to go to 'add a gadget' under layout and add the 'url' of the maths website so that it sits on the side of the blog.)

If you really want to extend your skills visit 'photopeach.com' and follow your digital nose to make a slideshow with music that you can embed onto your blog.  You will need to take a series of pictures or use the cross country pictures I will take tomorrow and download them from kotukuclass@gmail.com.  It is easier if you have the photos that you want to upload onto photopeach, sitting on your desktop.  (This is an optional extra as we will be going through the process in class too later next week)

Week 4
Mathletics practice  - I have given you a list of new topics to do with our new maths topic measurement.

Week 3

Collect a cloze exercise sheet from Ms Hood on the science of matter and complete this and stick into your science book.

I have set you a mathletics course based on fractions.  Please complete 500 points this week.  Choose something easier if you are finding it too hard.  See me if it is still too hard please

Narrative

 1-copy down the openings to 2 novels and annotate it.  This means make notes around it.  Look carefully for language features the writer has used and highlight these, saying what each of them is.

 2-Look up the meaning of the word 'acronym'

  Explain what an acronym is and give some examples of these. 

 3 -keep working on those basic facts - remember the basic facts or bust competition.













Week 8/9 homeworrk
As we have two short weeks and a 5 day holiday in the middle of this time your homework will run from Wednesday to Tuesday 9th April.
During this time please complete the new mathletics course that has been set for you

Tornado Summaries
Those of you who did not finish this work in class need to do so form homework.  The task is accessible under the literacy tab on the blog.  The summary needs to be written into your literacy book and NOT on the computer.

 Career write ups
If you do not finish these at school these are also pieces to be finished in draft form at home.  Your draft needs to be done in your literacy book and marked by me before you publish it.

Science homework
Please make sure you have at least 10 days of weather recorded in your home weather diary that you have stuck inside your topic book in the science section.  Read the instructions in the booklet to remind you how to record the weather.  

You will see that a lot of the homework is finishing off things.  If you have finished them in the class time provided then you obviously have less homework!!!



Week 7
I have set new courses for week 7 mathletics.  Not everyone completed their mathletics and some people did nothing at all!!  You will receive a written record of your completion (or not) at the end of the term.
This week you have about 7 topics to complete.  Don't worry if you have already done some of them. Just redo them.

Planning for topic research task
Completing your planning for your research task is your homework task this week.  I will give yo some planning sheets in class and these should be completed and stuck into your topic book.  I have included a tab on the blog for your parents to help you plan your research.  Show them the tab.  Show them the task and get their input if you are finding it difficult to know where to begin.  You will have help in class time but the actual planning needs to be completed at home.

Spelling lists
There will be two spelling lists given out this week both with topic words and word families from these topic words.  Learn these words for a test next Tuesday.  Make sure you know what these words mean.




Week 6

GO GO GO!!!
Mathletics SHOULD be sorted now.  You should open up a course that has been specifically selected for your group and based on the topics in maths that we have covered to date this term.  You should have about 10 topics then a test at the end.  If there is more than this available then something is not right!  Please see if you can complete the points by next Tuesday.  Remember you can do mathletics at school when you have completed other work.

STOP STOP STOP  mathletics courses are not showing correctly on the mathletics website.  These will be up and running tomorrow.  Please wait to complete your mathletics homework until Thursday or in class time on Friday.


Mathletics is now set with a courses suited to what your group has covered.  You will find these courses allocated when you go onto the website.  Please complete all of the allocated course before next Tuesday.

Week 4
 Yay - mathletics is here!!!  This week I will give you your password for you to go in and set up your avatar and warm up for a week of mathletics next week!!  Make sure you can find your way around mathletics at home and show your parents how it works.
QUIZLET
We visited this site at school and now I want you to go back onto it and complete a set of flashcards that has at least 15 questions on a maths topic you choose.  Make sure you do not make the questions too simple.  You can go onto a site like wwwmaths drills.com to help you with finding some questions on a particular topic

Some of you will have spelling lists to learn from your writing task last week.  IF this is you please be ready for a spelling test on Friday.

SOCIAL STUDIES HOMEWORK
On Wednesday you will be doing an activity that will summarise the causes of the slave trade.  These will be done on padlet.  You need to access the published padlets from the blog under the topic tab and read over every group's contribution.  Then you need to write a short explanation that answers the following questions
What impact do you think the slave trade had on the communities in Africa from whom slaves were taken?
What impact do you think the slave trade had on the new settlers in America?
Why do you think the slave trade was so successful for the people who ran it for so many years?







Week 3 HOMEWORK

Writing/word study

Start a glossary of weather words.  Find at least 10 weather related words and explain their meaning by using them in a sentence.  Challenge yourself with your glossary collection - choose words that you are actually not sure of the meaning and put them in the glossary (You can start your glossary on a google doc if you want and then share it with me at kotukuclass@gmail.com or do it in hard copy and stick it in to your science book.)

We are going to be looking in to the Beattitudes and discussing how they help us to live as Jesus wants us to live.  What rules do you think would be useful ones to live by if we want to live like Jesus?

Maths
